Explain the statement:

"Every defect that afflicts the eloquence/purity of a letter is due to the lack of precision in the makhraj." (Khooli, 2015)

If a letter is not correctly said, it is due to the letter being said while mixing its makhraj with another makhraj.

In class we studied that the makhraj is basically the resonance chamber or controller of what? What happens when we "exhale while relying on a makhraj"?

It results in the correct sound (if you are giving it the correct makharij and sifaat) of the letter.
