1 A statement on Mon Sep 25, 2017 1:07 pm

Al Imam Makki Ibn Abi Talib rahimahullaah said: These qiraa'aat that are recited today and their chians have been authenticated by the a'immah, they are only a portion of the ahruf as-sab'ah in which the Qur'aan was revealed. نَقلا عَن «فتح الباري»: 19/ 37
Explain this statement in light of this weekend's discussion. What relevant event(s) indicate this fact?

The qiraat was made in chains of the recitation. For example asim taught his students who taught their students who taught there students and so on.

Tayyib. That's a reasonable explanation for the qiraa'aat but how are they connected to the seven ahruf mentioned in the ahaadeeth? Are they the seven ahruf?

'Uthmaan radhiAllahu 'anhu told Zaid bin Thabit and other sahabah to write down the Qur'an in perfect copies in the dialect of the Quraish because the Muslims were going to fight because of the differences in the seven dialects.

So all the qiraa'aat today are chains narrated from the dialect of the Quraish.

So the Imam meant that we're using one of the sab'ati ahruf for all the qiraa'aat today.

Ok you're definitely on the right track, jazaakillaahu khairan.
Uthman distributed the masaahif along with reciters to teach the people. He ordered them to teach the people as they were taught as long as what?

... as long as they used the dialect of the Quraish.

Tayyib. The Qur'an was written in the dialect of Quraish but what was another distinguishing trait of this mus-haf? How did it look?

Originally there were no dots, no vowels, no sukoon, and no shaddah.

Perfect! So, remember the statement of Uthman radiyallaahu anh "If you differ about anything then write it in the dialect of Quraish." What can we understand from this statement concerning the other dialects and their differences? Especially taking into consideration that these men from different tribes were still working together in the compilation of the Qur'aan.
